Designed a record cover by analyzing the lyrics of “Teardrop" by Massive Attack.
Analyzing the lyrics of “Teardrop" by Massive Attack, I drew connections to Freud's dichotomy of Eros, self-preservation, and Thanatos, self-destruction, which symbolize the opposing forces within us:
Eros
Life, Self-preservation, Love, Creativity
Thanatos
Death, Self-destruction, Aggression
“After analyzing the lyrics of Teardrop, I noticed the conflict between Eros and Thanatos in the human mind, where we have the drives of Eros — life, self-preservation, love — or Thanatos — death, self-destruction, hate, aggression.”
In my interpretation, Eros and Thanatos coexist within our ego, inseparable and in perpetual conflict—a love and hate relationship. At times, they harmonize, but occasionally clash explosively, akin to a powerful explosion. This internal struggle unfolds within our ego, causing it to stumble. The Teardrop song's sound, melody, and lyrics encapsulate the conflict story of Eros and Thanatos within the ego, portraying the dynamic interplay of these opposing forces with profound energy.
